Chemex 6 Cups

The Chemex is one of the most iconic pour-over brewing methods, celebrated for its ability to produce an exceptionally clean, elegant and well-balanced cup of coffee. Thanks to its unique thick paper filters, the Chemex removes excess oils and fine particles, allowing the coffee’s natural sweetness, clarity and complexity to shine through.

This brewing method is particularly well suited to coffees with floral aromas, vibrant acidity and delicate flavour characteristics. We especially recommend coffees from Ethiopia, Costa Rica and El Salvador, where the Chemex beautifully highlights notes of jasmine, citrus, honey, caramel, stone fruits and chocolate.

Recommended Recipe

  • Coffee: 42g
  • Water: 700ml
  • Water Temperature: 94°C
  • Grind Size: Coarse (similar to sea salt)
  • Brew Time: 4:30–5:00 min
  • Ratio: 1:16.7

Brewing Method

  1. Fold and place the Chemex filter into the brewer.
  2. Rinse the filter thoroughly with hot water and discard the rinse water.
  3. Add 42g of freshly ground coffee to the filter.
  4. Start the timer and pour 84ml of water evenly over the grounds to begin the bloom.
  5. Allow the coffee to bloom for 45 seconds.
  6. Slowly continue pouring in circular motions until reaching 700ml of total water.
  7. Finish pouring at approximately 3:30 minutes and allow the coffee to draw down completely. Total brew time should be between 4:30 and 5:00 minutes.
  8. Remove the filter and serve immediately.
